One of the trickiest parts of a career pivot is figuring out what you're worth in a new field. Here's how to approach it.
Research the Market
Use sites like Glassdoor, levels.fyi, and local salary surveys to understand the range for your target role in your area. Know the bottom and top of the range before you negotiate.
Your Experience Has Value
Even if you're "new" to this field, your years of professional experience give you soft skills, business sense, and maturity that a fresh graduate doesn't have. Price that in.
Don't Go First
If possible, let the employer state the range first. If they press you, give a range based on your research, with the bottom being something you'd genuinely accept.
Consider the Full Package
Salary isn't everything. Remote work flexibility, learning budget, equity, and growth trajectory can all be part of the negotiation.
